Bringing positivity to the situations will make a world of difference, especially when you're leading your team.
As healing and empowering leaders who are here to influence the spaces that we frequent, lead our people, and help them create constructive outcomes, it's our responsibility to bring the positivity that can help all of us become more resourceful.
Instead of going into a downward spiral, there is something to be said about being genuine. A healing leader is authentic. It's one thing to acknowledge what is going on and be positive. However, it's inauthentic to put our head under the sand and pretend everything is fine when it isn't. On the contrary, we acknowledge the existing situation and the challenges in front of us and communicate how we will move forward. We can share how...
We're going to huddle and decide what the best way to move forward is.
We're going to implement the decisions we make today.
We will communicate broadly to the organization so everone gets on board.
This is a simple example of how we can use positivity to acknowledge what is going on, even when it's not going well.
Being positive is a quality that is a hundred percent under our control with the people we lead, including our families.
Have you noticed how kids sometimes, when they fall, wait for the parents to react to see whether they should cry or not? And if a child falls and you say, "You're okay." They get up and keep going. But if you panic, they begin to cry.
A similar phenomenon happens with the people we lead. They are looking to us for our reaction. Thus, it's essential to be emotionally intelligent--self-aware of what you're feeling and able to manage those emotions. When you calibrate your feelings and those of the people around you, you can develop a constructive response that will help your people move forward instead of panicking as a default reaction.
