The #1 Piece of Advice if You Overanalyze Problems and Solutions



What happens to our time when we spend weeks and months in analysis mode versus action mode?


By taking so long to figure out what to do next, we miss the opportunity to try something, learn from it, tweak what we did and do something a little bit differently. This means that we are sacrificing achieving success faster.

When we take time to overanalyze, what is sometimes lurking in our subconcious mind? In many cases, it's fear; fear of making a mistake, fear of not knowing what to do, fear of what people may think about you, how you will be received or perceived.


Sometimes those subcouncious fears keep us stuck in one place without making an actual decision, trying something, and seeing whether or not it's going to work.


Fortunately, everyone is busy with their own life. There's a little bit of narcissism in the attitude that others will be focused on us. I am guilty of it, too. It assumes that people are primarily thinking about us and not themselves. And if I were to ask you, who do you think about the most in your life? Most likely, it's yourself. And if you're doing that, everybody else is doing the same thing.


Others don't have the bandwidth to be focused on your every move. So, if that's one of your worries, let's bring awareness to it. Then focus on taking action from a place of contribution and service and geenrate the best solution and od your best for yourself and the people around you.


When you shift your focus to "service" and being of support to yourself and others, you tend to be more courageous.

So, figure out what gives you courage and what helps you make decisions. Then, think about the opportunity cost.


What is it costing me by not taking action, executing, or having momentum in my life, in my career, personal life, and relationships?


Tough decisions are not easy to make because there seems to be so much at stake. There is also much at stake in inaction. Think about what you are overanalyzing right now.

  • What would happen if you take action?

  • What is the worst thing that could happen?

If you take action and don't get the desired outcome, you tweak it to get a different outcome. Then you keep trying. As you do, you accelerate toward the ultimate decision that you're going to make.


And remember that today's decision is based on the facts around you. Tomorrow. you may have a different set of facts, and those will drive what you do. That's okay. We are part of nature. Nature is always evolving.


We also have our seasons: our Springs, when we are budding and ideas are coming up. We have our summers when we are in full bloom. We have our Fall when we begin to shed ideas, beliefs, even relationships that no longer serve us. And finally, we have our winters when we are going inward, hibernating, or going through a tough time.


Know that no matter where you are right now, it's a season, and "it" too shall pass.

Take action. Your time is precious, and that is the only resource that we never get back.
